Long-time rivals meet for 123rd time on Saturday

Duquesne (17-5, 7-3), which extended its win streak to two with an 82-68 win at Saint Louis on Wednesday, returns home to face St. Bonaventure (15-8, 7-3) on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3:00 p.m. at Robert Morris's UPMC Events Center (NBCSN). This is the first of two meetings between DU and its all-time most-frequent opponent (123rd meeting overall). Saturday's game is the 11th Chuck Cooper Classic, honoring DU's Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer. DU and SBU are tied for third in the A-10. The Dukes, who are playing home games at three venues due to renovation of the on-campus UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse - are 9-1 at "home" including a 2-0 mark at RMU. St. Bonaventure, which has won the past seven in the series, is 5-5 on a road, including a 3-2 record in A-10 play.

  • Duquesne's 17-5 start is the school's best since 1971-72 (18-4 on the way to 20-5).
  • This is just the fourth time in 43 Atlantic 10 seasons that DU has seven wins in its first 10 conference games.

  • Junior center Michael Hughes  ranks 12th nationally in blocks per game (2.82) and 8th in block pct. (13.3) according to KenPom. DU is 8-0 (4-0 in A-10 play) when Hughes blocks four or more shots.
  • DU is 12-3 all-time (6-1 this year) when junior Tavian Dunn-Martin  hits three or more from beyond the arc.

A-10 NOTABLES
  • Duquesne's 73-59 win over Saint Louis on Jan. 2 was the Dukes' sixth in a row over the Billikens in Pittsburgh.
  • DU's 71-64 home win over Davidson was DU's first series win, ending a streak of seven consecutive losses to the Wildcats.
  • The 78-60 (+18) margin of victory at Saint Joseph's was DU's third-largest in the series and most since a 96-70 win over the Hawks at the A-10 Championship at the Palestra on Mar. 3, 1990.
  • DU's 66-61 win at George Washington was its fifth-straight series win and program-best third consecutive win at GW.
  • Duquesne completed a home-and-home sweep of Saint Louis with an 82-68 win at Chaifetz Arena on Feb. 5. The 14-point margin of victory was DU's largest on the road vs. the Billikens. It was also SLU's first home loss to an unranked team this season.

  • The win gave Duquesne its second series sweep in 11 home-and-home meetings with the Billikens (SLU has also swept twice, the two have split seven times) and ended a three-game losing streak at Chaifetz Arena.
  • Marcus Weathers' 26 points tied his career high set on Jan. 2 vs. Saint Louis in Pittsburgh. He tied his career high for free throws made and attempted (11-of-13). Weathers, who had a pair of traditional three-point plays to up his season total to 15, drew nine Billikens fouls.
  • Sincere Carry finished 4-of-6 from the arc (14 points) in tying his career high for 3-point makes set earlier this season at UMass. Carry added eight assists without a turnover, giving him 17 assists in DU's past two games.
  • Michael Hughes' five steals were a career high. Hughes also had 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in 28 minutes.
  • Baylee Steele came off the bench to score 10 points and grab seven rebounds in 21 minutes. It was his first double-digit scoring game since he had 12 points at Saint Joseph's on Jan. 8.
  • The Dukes assisted on 17 of their 27 field goals and outrebounded SLU 40-30.
  • Saint Louis's largest lead was four at 7-3 at with 14:33 left in the first half ... Duquesne's largest lead was 16 at 74-58 with 4:34 remaining ... there were four ties and seven lead changes before a Marcus Weathers gave DU the lead for good on a layup that made it 20-18 with 8:03 left in the first half ...
