UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Duquesne lacrosse team dropped a 20-6 decision at the hands of 25th-ranked Penn State on Wednesday afternoon at Panzer Stadium in Happy Valley. The Dukes drop to 1-2 on the year with both losses coming to Big Ten opponents, while the Nittany Lions improve to 3-0 on the season.
After Penn State jumped out to a 6-0 lead,
Michaela Connolly (Sykesville, Md. / Century) got Duquesne on the board with a goal off the assist by
Kirsten Barnes (Brielle, N.J. / Manasquan). The Nittany Lions added two more goals before the Dukes netted two of the next four from
Elizabeth Petrosky (Lititz, Pa. / Manheim Township) and
Maddie Hart (Sykesville, Md. / Century) to shrink the deficit to 10-3.
Penn State would respond with seven straight scores into the second half to gain a 17-3 edge. Duquesne recorded three of the next five goals from Petrosky, Hart and
Emma Eberly (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) to cut the Nittany Lions' advantage to 19-6. Penn State added a late goal for the final margin.
Petrosky and Hart had two goals apiece to lead the Dukes while Hart dished out an assist to go with three draw controls and three ground balls.
Sydney Reed (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) had three caused turnovers to pace Duquesne.

Duquesne takes on Saint Francis U on the road next Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. at DeGol Field in Loretto, Pa. The Red Flash are 0-2 on the season following losses to Radford and American. The Dukes are 10-2 all-time against Saint Francis U, including a 17-2 victory last season at Arthur J. Rooney Field.
