PITTSBURGH – Duquesne University head men's basketball coach
Keith Dambrot announced today that graduate transfer
Ryan Murphy (Calabasas, Calif.) has enrolled at DU and will be part of the men's basketball program this winter.
Murphy, who has played in 49 Division I games with 17 starts, will be eligible on December 11.
The 6-2 guard began his career at Charlotte where he averaged 6.7 points per game in 19 appearances (five starts). He went on to average 18.5 points per game at New Mexico Junior College before transferring to Pitt where he averaged 7.6 points in 30 games for the Panthers (12 starts) last season. Murphy, who led Pitt with 42 3-pointers, is 74-of-207 (.357) from the 3-point arc at the Division I level.
"Ryan is an experienced player who is game-tested," said Dambrot. "He reminds me a lot of
Baylee Steele with his work ethic and business-like approach to the game. He just wants to get better every day and he felt our place was a good fit for him. He contacted us and expressed his interest. We look forward to having him as part of our team."
Murphy has 16 career Division I double-digit scoring games, including 11 last year at Pitt. He came off the bench to score a career-high 28 points vs. Nicholls State in his second game as a Panther. Pitt, which finished 16-17, went 8-4 with Murphy as a starter.
