Duquesne Athletics and Clearway Energy Announce Long-Term Sponsorship

PITTSBURGH – Duquesne University Athletics and Clearway Energy have finalized a 10-year sponsorship it was announced today.

Clearway and Duquesne University's partnership began when Clearway acquired Duquesne University's energy assets. Clearway is improving the efficiency and resiliency of Duquesne University's heating and cooling system by integrating it with their existing neighboring plant at UPMC Mercy Hospital. The mutually beneficial acquisition provided Clearway with 6,300,000 square feet across 46 campus buildings to serve, and Duquesne University with an impactful upfront payment into their endowment.

"We have found a great partner in Duquesne University and are proud to continue to meaningfully work together to positively impact the community," said Ali Karvar, East Region General Manager of Clearway Energy. "Our mission is to work with our partners toward a cleaner, brighter future, which we believe is not limited to our energy services."

Through this sponsorship, Clearway will have the ability to interact directly with student-athletes through Duquesne University Athletics PNC Leadership Academy. The academy was created to enhance the student-athlete experience by providing comprehensive programming focused on leadership, mentorship, self-awareness, and career pathways. The academy will provide opportunities for student-athletes to be successful while at Duquesne University and better prepare them for post-graduation endeavors. Clearway will be an integral partner in this process on a number of levels from hosting micro-internship opportunities at Clearway facilities, being a featured speaker during career panel discussions, an active participant in career fairs, and a number of additional assets that would create growth opportunities for the Duquesne community. The relationship also gives Clearway naming rights to the Forbes Avenue entrance of the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

"Athletics being included in an expanded Duquesne University partnership with Clearway Energy yields tremendous opportunities for the community and our students," said Dave Harper, Director of Athletics at Duquesne University. "Clearway is a pillar of the Pittsburgh community and a key driver of our city's economic development. We constructed the partnership to expand Clearway's community service and activity as well as help them enhance their workforce by tapping into the talented students we have at Duquesne. This partnership will also benefit our PNC Leadership Academy programming as we grow the curriculum of leadership, career pathways, service, and personal development on an annual basis by tapping into Clearway Energy's intellectual capital."
