LOUISVILLE, KY. - Little Rock (2-1) shot 74 percent in the second half to spoil Duquesne's season opener in posting a 76-66 win over the Dukes at the Wade Houston Tipoff Classic at Louisville's KFC Yum! Center.
Sincere Carry and
Marcus Weathers led Duquesne with 12 points each, while
Tavian Dunn-Martin added 11 off the bench.
Markquis Nowell finished with 13 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds for Little Rock.
Little Rock, which outshot Duquesne 56 percent to 38 percent, did its damage around the rim, outscoring DU 46-24 in the paint. Six-ten center Nikola Maric led the way for the Trojans with a game-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Duquesne took a 40-38 lead - its first since 19-18 midway through the first half - on a Carry 3-pointer, before the Trojans answered with an 8-0 run to make it 46-40.
Duquesne cut it to 48-46 before Marko Andric ignited a 9-0 Trojans run with a free throw at the 13:24 mark of the second half.
An Andric layup made it 62-49 with 9:16 to go as the Trojans hit 11 of their first 14 shots out of the half in building their double-digit lead.
Duquesne briefly cut it to 64-58 on a pair of
Michael Hughes free throws with just under seven minutes left, before Maric started a 5-0 run with a bucket to put the game out of reach.
Duquesne returns to action on Wednesday when it faces UNC Greensboro (1-0, faces Prairie View A&M on Tuesday) in Louisville at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN3).
