Dukes Dominate Hawks

Four score in double figures for second-straight game as DU moves to 3-0 in A-10

PHILADELPHIA - Marcus Weathers led four players in double figures with 15 points and Sincere Carry added 14 as Duquesne (13-2, 3-0) held Saint Joseph's (3-12, 0-3) to a season-low 28.8 percent from the field to remain undefeated in Atlantic 10 play with a 78-60 win over the Hawks in Philadelphia.

Baylee Steele scored 12 off the bench and Maceo Austin added 11 for the Dukes, who are now 3-0 in league play for the fourth time in 43 Atlantic 10 seasons.

Duquesne, playing its first road game of the year, led by five early before Steele started a 13-2 run with a 3-pointer. Lamar Norman Jr., who finished with eight points, added another 3-pointer and a steal and dunk as DU built a 24-11 lead. In all, six players hit a 3-pointer in the opening 20 minutes to help the Dukes to a 38-23 advantage.

DU opened the second half with a 11-0 run that included another Norman Jr. 3-pointer to take a 49-23 lead.

The Dukes maintained at least a 17-point lead the rest of the way in holding Saint Joseph's to their lowest series point total since 1986. The 18-point margin of victory was DU's third-largest in the 56-game series.

Duquesne, which shot 50 percent, assisted on 15 of its 30 field goals. Tavian Dunn-Martin led the way with a career-high eight assists.

Michael Hughes added four blocks for the Dukes who held the Hawks to 5-of-35 from the 3-point arc.

Carry held Saint Joseph's Ryan Daly, who entered the game leading the Atlantic 10 with a 19.9 points per game scoring average, to three points on 1-of-8 shooting.

DU went 8-of-27 from long distance.

Duquesne, which is in the midst of four-of-five on the road, heads to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 4:00 p.m. (ESPN+).

NOTES
  • DU's 13-2 start is the school's best since 1971-72 (15-2).
  • This is the fourth time in 43 Atlantic 10 seasons that the Dukes have opened conference play 3-0 (2018, 2011 & 2009 are the others).
  • Duquesne is now 4-21 all-time at Saint Joe's, with three of the four wins coming in the past five meetings at Hagan Arena.
  • The 18-point margin of victory was DU's third-largest in the series and most since a 96-70 win over the Hawks in an A-10 Championship game at the Palestra on Mar. 3, 1990.
  • Duquesne held Saint Joe's to a season-low .288 from the field, including 5-of-35 from 3-point.
  • DU finished with four double-digit scorers for the second-straight game: Marcus Weathers (15), Sincere Carry (14), Baylee Steele (12) and Maceo Austin (11).
  • Tavian Dunn-Martin's eight assists were two more than his previous career high of six set vs. Longwood and matched vs. UMass last season.
  • Duquesne's largest lead was 27 at 56-29 with 12:44 left ... Duquesne, who never trailed, led for 38:20.
  • DU has led not trailed - and led for 76:42 of a possible 80 minutes - in its past two games (vs. Davidson and at Saint Joseph's).
