Duquesne (12-2, 2-0), off to its best start since 1971-72, heads to Philadelphia looking to go 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play for just the fourth time in 43 A-10 seasons, when it takes on Saint Joseph's (3-11, 0-2) on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+). The Dukes, who are 7-0 at home despite having to play their "home" games at three different arenas due to the season-long renovation of the on-campus UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, are the last D-I team to play a road game (beating Kentucky and TCU by one day). The nomadic Dukes have played more games in the Bahamas (3), Florida (2) and Ohio (2) than they have within Pittsburgh's city limits. DU played its opener vs. Princeton at PPG Paints Arena, four nonconference home games at La Roche University (10 miles from DU's downtown campus) and two home games at Robert Morris University (18 miles from campus).
TRENDING
- DU's 12-2 start is the school's best since 1971-72 (15-2).
- The Saint Joe's game begins a stretch of 4-of-5 on the road for the Dukes. Duquesne is the last D-I team to play a road game.
- The Dukes have won seven in a row at home while playing at three different venues (PPG Paints Arena, D-III La Roche University and Robert Morris).
- The Dukes rank 10th nationally in blocks/g. (6.1) through Jan. 5.
- DU is the nation's 6th-best free throw shooting team at .791. The Dukes have made 14 fewer FTs (201-254) than opponents have attempted (141-215).
- The balanced Dukes have six players averaging between 9.3 and 14.4 points per game. Six players have either led, or tied for the team lead, in scoring and five have scored 20 or more in a game.
- Sophomore guard Sincere Carry averaged 14.0 points and 6.5 assists on 50 percent shooting in DU's two games last week.
- Junior Marcus Weathers saw a streak of five consecutive games leading the Dukes in scoring snapped with his 14 points vs. Davidson. Weathers is shooting a team-best .603.
- Junior center Michael Hughes ranks ninth nationally in blocks per game (3.0) and seventh in block pct. (KenPom). His 42 total blocks rank 11th in Division I.
- Under Keith Dambrot, DU is: 38-3 when leading with 5:00 left ... 37-10 when scoring 70 or more points ... 32-3 when the first to 70 points in a game ... 29-7 when holding opponents under 70 (including 10-0 this year).
