Duquesne (15-4, 5-2), which is off to its best start since 1971-72, returns to Pittsburgh to host #7 (AP) Dayton (18-2, 7-0) on Wed., Jan. 29 at 7:00 at PPG Paints Arena (CBSSN). The Dukes, who have won eight in a row at home - despite playing at three venues due to renovation of the on-campus UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse - are looking to snap a two-game Atlantic 10 losing streak. Dayton is the highest-ranked team to face the Dukes in Pittsburgh since No. 1 (AP) UMass visited on Jan. 20, 1996 (L, 89-93). Duquesne is 2-2 against the Flyers at PPG Paints Arena. Dayton, which enters the game as one of four Division I teams without a road loss, is the first Top 10 team to visit DU since No. 9 (AP) Xavier on Feb. 7, 2009 (a 72-68 Dukes win at the Palumbo Center).

TRENDING
  • Duquesne's 15-4 start is the school's best since 1971-72 (19-4).
  • This is the third-straight year Keith Dambrot has led the Dukes to a 5-2 Atlantic 10 start. In 43 A-10 seasons, DU has opened 5-2 or better a total of six times.
  • The Dukes rank seventh nationally - and first in the A-10 - in blocks/g. at 6.05. DU is fifth in the nation in block percentage (16.8) according to KenPom.
  • DU ranks 20th nationally in 3-point percentage defense (.287). DU is limiting A-10 opponents to a .286 success rate from the 3-point arc.
  • Duquesne has held five of seven A-10 opponents under 40 percent from the field.
  • Junior Marcus Weathers (team-high 14.2 ppg.) is shooting .594 in A-10 games. Weathers, whose career scoring high entering the season was 19 points, has scored 20 or more a team-high four times.
  • Sophomore Sincere Carry, DU's second-leading scorer at 11.5 ppg., is coming off a 20-point outing at UMass. DU is 11-1 when Carry, DU's assist leader at 4.5 apg., hands out five or more assists.
  • Junior center Michael Hughes  ranks eighth nationally in blocks per game (3.05) and fifth in block pct. (14.9) according to KenPom. His 58 total blocks rank 10th in Division I. DU is 8-0 (4-0 in A-10 play) when Hughes blocks four or more shots.
  • Under Keith Dambrot, DU is: 41-3 when leading with 5:00 left ... 38-10 when scoring 70 or more points ... 33-3 when the first to 70 points in a game ... 32-7 when holding opponents under 70 (including 13-0 this year).
  • The balanced Dukes have six players averaging between 8.7 and 14.2 points per game.
  • Seven players have either led, or tied for the team lead, in scoring and six have scored 20 or more in a game. The six 20-point scorers:  Marcus Weathers (4 times), Tavian Dunn-Martin & Sincere Carry (twice) and Michael Hughes, Baylee Steele & Lamar Norman Jr. (once each).
  • The Dukes have won eight in a row at home while playing at three different venues (PPG Paints Arena, D-III La Roche University and Robert Morris). DU has been displaced by season-long renovation work which is being done to the on-campus UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. Duquesne has had to board a bus for 17 of its 19 games this season (La Roche is 10 miles from DU's downtown campus, Robert Morris is an 18-mile trip).
  • Duquesne is 35-11 in home games under Dambrot, including a 22-5 mark over the past two seasons.
  • DU's 10-0 start was the best since the 1953-54 team opened with 22-straight wins. Sid Dambrot, the father of DU head coach Keith Dambrot, was a senior guard on the '54 team which reached No. 1 in the AP & UPI polls. The 10-game win streak was the program's longest since Ron Everhart's Dukes reeled off 11 in a row from Dec. 31 to Feb. 2 in 2010-11. DU was one of the last four undefeated NCAA Division I teams this season.
  • Duquesne has come back from double-digit deficits to win four times: -14 vs. Princeton, -12 vs. both Indiana State & Loyola Marymount and -11 vs. VMI. Dambrot's Dukes have erased a total of 12 double-digit deficits in the past two seasons.

Duquesne is 2-2 against the Flyers at PPG Paints Arena with double-digit wins in 2011 (82-64) & 2015 (83-73) and a three-point loss (54-57) in 2014.

On Feb. 7, 2009, the Dukes ended a 24-game losing streak against ranked opponents with a 72-68 home win over No. 9 (AP) Xavier. DU added another ranked win over No. 19 (AP) Temple on Jan. 15, 2011 (78-66 at the Palumbo Center). Duquesne's 71-64 win at No. 10 (AP) Saint Louis on Feb. 27, 2014 was DU's first road win over a Top 10 team since 1962 (73-72 at #6 (AP) Bradley on Mar. 5, 1962). Duquesne has won two of its last five home games against ranked opponents (including two of the past three on campus) (see the game notes for a complete breakdown).

A DUKES WIN WOULD
  • Up the team's record to 16-4, which would be the best since 1971-72 (19-4).
  • Be Duquesne's first win over a ranked - and Top 10 - team since Feb. 27, 2014 at #10 (AP) Saint Louis (71-64) (a span of 5 g.).
  • Be the highest-ranked team Duquesne has defeated since a 78-76 OT win over No. 4 (AP) Providence at the Civic Arena on Feb. 6, 1966.
  • Be head coach Keith Dambrot's first victory over a ranked team in 18 tries. (Dambrot has played 16 of his first 17 games vs. ranked teams either on the road or at neutral sites.)
  • Give DU a 1-1 record vs. ranked teams under Dambrot.
  • Be the program's 17th win - and fourth in 35 tries since January of 1974 - over a Top 10 team while unranked.
  • Would give Duquesne its second consecutive 6-2 Atlantic 10 start.
  • Extend DU's home win streak to nine.
