RALEIGH, N.C. – Facing its second nationally-ranked team in five games to begin the season, the Duquesne women's soccer team (1-2-2) fell to No. 14 NC State (3-2-2), 3-0, at Dail Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Wolfpack tallied scores in the third, 24th and 50th minutes to claim the victory.
The Dukes close out the non-conference portion of the schedule next Sunday, when Duquesne hosts Youngstown State in the second game of a double-header at Rooney Field. The Duquesne men's soccer team faces California Baptist at noon, while the Duquesne women battle the Penguins at 3:00 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tziarra King found Jameese Joseph on a cross off of a deflection to lift NC State to an early lead in the third minute.Â
- In the 24th minute, Lulu Guttenberger recorded her first goal of the contest, receiving a cross from Joseph inside the box. Â
- Guttenberger struck for her second goal of a corner, with assists credited to Ricarda Walking and Toni Starova.
- One of Duquesne's best opportunities to score came in the 62nd minute, as a shot from Brooke Schutter was saved by the Wolfpack goalkeeper.
- Schutter posted two shots total, while Natalie Bell and Tori Kopchak also tallied attempts.
- Megan Virgin, the reigning Atlantic 10 Defensive Player Week, made eight stops in net. Â
