Busquets' Brace Powers @DuqMSoccer to School Record Sixth-Straight Win

Sophomore scores twice to help Dukes to first back-to-back road wins since 2009

Manel Busquets (17' & 47') scored twice to lead efficient Duquesne to an Atlantic 10-opening 2-1 win at Saint Joseph's is on Saturday night. The victory was a school record sixth in a row for the Dukes, who have now won back-to-back road games the first time since 2009 (DU won at Robert Morris, 2-0, on Wednesday). Robbie McKelvey once again came up big in goal with eight saves - one shy of his career high. Busquets' brace came on DU's only two recorded shots on goal. The Dukes head to Loretto, Pa. to face Saint Francis in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. (NEC Front Row).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Duquesne got on the board first when Busquets notched his team-high third goal of the season - and second in two games - in the 17th minute. The goal came on the first of DU's two shots in the half.
  • The Hawks, who outshot the Dukes 11-2 in the opening 45 minutes and 22-8 for the game, tied it eight minutes later on a Daniel Morales goal.
  • DU's McKelvey recorded two of his four first-half saves in the final two minutes to keep it even at the half. His eight total saves were one shy of his career high.
  • Busquets struck again in the 47th minute off a pass from Zach Hall to make it 2-1.
  • Duquesne's Jack Shearer rifled a shot off the crossbar in the 57th minute.
  • McKelvey made a fingertip save of a Frantz Pierrot shot in the 80th minute to preserve the lead.
  • This was the school record sixth-straight win for the Dukes, breaking the previous mark of five set in 2005 and matched in 2006.
  • This is the second time in program history (5-0-2 in 2002) that Duquesne has gone through seven matches without a defeat.
  • The Dukes are the lone undefeated team remaining in the Atlantic 10.
  • This is the first time since 2009 (at Saint Joe's and at Temple) that Duquesne has won back-to-back road games.
  • Duquesne has yet to surrender more than one goal in a game this season.
  • The win was Duquesne's 12th in the past 14 meetings with Saint Joe's (12-1-1 over that span).

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH CHASE BROOKS
"I'm very proud of our guys tonight. This was a hard-nosed, hard-fought Atlantic 10 battle. Our guys bent at times, but they never broke and that's what it takes to get results in this conference. I'm looking forward to our game Tuesday night. We need to keep working and keep moving forward."
