Dukes Win Third Straight with 6-1 Victory at St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. - Duquesne collected its third straight win with a 6-1 triumph on the road at St. Bonaventure on Saturday morning at the St. Bonaventure Fitness Center. The Dukes boost their record to 10-6 on the season with the victory while the Bonnies fall to 6-13.

First off the court was Julianne Herman and Meredith Lee playing No. 1 doubles again. They seemed to be in control right from the start and earned a  6-2 win. Next was Margot Pessy and Priyanka Mitta, who gained a quick lead and held off their opponents for a  6-3 victory. Simultaneously, the No. 3 doubles duo of Maddy Adams and Laurel Shymansky, battled back from 0-3 down to win six straights games and pick up a 6-3 win.

"Playing a strong doubles point is very important for college tennis," said women's assistant coach Hunter Callahan. "It sets the tone for the rest of the match. Today I think our girls came out very strong and disciplined, they took control of the doubles point right away, and it showed in the singles play that followed."

The Dukes maintained much of the same strong play into singles action. Herman was first off the court with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 performance at #1 singles. Next to finish was Adams playing No. 2 for the first time this season. She got off to a very good start before her opponent put up a good fight in the first set. However, Adams was too much to handle with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

With the Dukes needing just one more point to secure the win, Aishwarya Kona bested her opponent at No. 3 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Priyanka Mitta earned her second straight conference win by securing a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles while Margot Pessy continued her strong play and won 6-1 6-0 at No. 5 singles.

Tyra Abdalla saw singles action but dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at the No. 6 position.
