Dukes Earn No. 4 Seed at NEC Championship

Post 9-9 mark in regular-season conference play

No. 23 Duquesne (53-37) secured the fourth seed at the Northeast Conference Championship with its performance in the second NEC Meet, held over the weekend at Berks Lanes in Reading, Pa.

The Dukes went 5-7 over the three-day event to finish with a 9-9 record in NEC play.

No. 11 Saint Francis U (14-4) will be the No. 1 seed at the Championship, with No. 19 Mount St. Mary's (12-6) seeded second. Duquesne, which finished tied with No. 20 Sacred Heart at 9-9, dropped to the fourth seed by virtue of a 1-2 record vs. the Pioneers in three regular-season rounds between the two. No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson (8-10) earned the No. 5 seed.

As the fourth seed, the Dukes will bowl FDU in a Mega match to move onto the Championship round. A Mega match consists of a five-game baker match followed by a traditional match. If tied, the winner is decided by a best-of-seven format.

The Dukes went 2-2 on day one of traditional play with wins over No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson and No. 19 Mount St. Mary's. The Dukes posted a 3787 total and 180.3 average in the four games. Olivia Farwell led the way with a 214.45 and Megan Cook averaged 192.00 in four games. Allison Hresko posted a 194.5 in two games bowled.

On Saturday, DU split a pair of traditional matches, including a 1045-986 win over No. 17 LIU Brooklyn that saw three Dukes top 200 (Farwell at 222, Cook at 220 and Hresko at 218).

DU went 2-4 in the final round of baker matches, with a 1081-919 win over No. 19 Mount St. Mary's and a 1021-903 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn. Two of the four losses came down to the wire (985-984 to No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson and 1020-1015 to No. 17 LIU Brooklyn).
