@DuqWBB’s Win Streak Snapped at 10 by Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Duquesne women's basketball team could not overcome an impressive defensive showing from Oklahoma State, falling 84-41 to the Cowgirls on Monday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Dukes' (10-3) win-streak was snapped at 10 games, while the Cowgirls improve to 9-3 with the victory.  

Laia Solé led the Dukes with 14 points on 7-13 shooting from the field, while adding five boards off the glass. Libby Bazelak grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Dukes in the category. Kiersten Elliot sunk a trio of 3-pointers on just five attempts to add nine points off the bench.

The first quarter was a defensive battle, with both squads struggling to put up points on the scoreboard. The Cowgirls led 8-6 with 3:31 remaining and finished the period on a 4-0 sprint to take a six-point lead at 12-6 after 10 minutes of action. The Dukes out-rebounded the Cowgirls 13-11 in the first quarter and held OSU to shoot just 29.4 percent from the field.  

Oklahoma State's offense came alive in the second quarter and continued to shoot at higher percentages as the game went on. The Cowgirls began the second quarter on a 13-2 sprint and capitalized on 53.3 percent of its field goal attempts in the frame to grab a 34-10 halftime advantage.

The Cowboys outscored the Dukes 25-13 in the third quarter to increase its lead to 59-23 entering the fourth frame.  

Duquesne posted its best offensive output with 18 points in the final period, but the Dukes ultimately suffered its first loss in 52 days. Monday's contest marked the first time this season that the Dukes did not reach 72 points offensively.

The Dukes will open the decade and Atlantic 10 Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 4, when Duquesne hosts UMass at La Roche University at 7:30 p.m.
