NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After helping lead Duquesne to its 10th consecutive victory, the Atlantic 10 announced on Monday that junior guard Libby Bazelak has been named the conference's co-player of the week.
Bazelak did it all for Duquesne in its second consecutive fourth quarter comeback on Friday night against Kennesaw State. The Kettering, Ohio native recorded 16 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 3PT, 6-6 FT), grabbed eight rebounds, distributed a pair of assists, while also earning four steals in the Dukes' (10-2) 75-72 victory over the Owls. The Dukes trailed by 10 points entering the final quarter.
On the season, Bazelak currently leads the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting at a 51.9 percent clip (27-52) from beyond the arc. She is among the conference leaders in assist to turnover ratio (sixth, 1.70), assists (fifth, 46), assists per game (fourth, 3.7), points (seventh, 168), free throw percentage (11th, 75 percent) and minutes played (third).
The award marks the second time a Duke has earned the conference honor this season, as fellow backcourt teammate Amanda Kalin was selected the player of the week on Nov. 18.
Bazelak shares the honor this week with George Mason's Camarie Gatling, who averaged 17 points and 7.5 rebounds on the week in against Navy and Howard.
The Dukes are off from game completion until Dec. 30, when Duquesne closes out the non-conference slate at Oklahoma State.
