MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The Raptors 905 announced that Duquesne alumna Wumi Agunbiade '14 has been hired on an junior coach.
Agunbiade, one of the most decorated athletes in Duquesne women's basketball history, will return home to Ontario with her new appointment. The Raptors 905 is the G League affiliate of the 2018-19 NBA Champion Toronto Raptors.
"This position is yet another confirmation that I'm exactly where I need to be," said Agunbiade of her new position. "I'm home and a part of an NBA organization that I have admired my entire life. This is a dream come true and hopefully something that those to come can see as possible"
During her time on the Bluff, Agunbiade was a four-time all-conference selection, ranking second all-time in points (1,776), third in rebounds (919) and fourth in blocks (158). She still holds the program record for free throws made (382), and is the only Duke to ever tally 1,700 points and 900 rebounds in her career.
"We are incredibly proud of Wumi's appointment to the Raptors 905 coaching staff," said Duquesne women's basketball head coach Dan Burt. "Her hard work, skill, and tenacity has allowed her great success as a player on the hardwood and that is now being recognized within the coaching community."
After graduating in 2014 with a degree in psychology, the Pickering, Ontario native spent three professional seasons overseas in Germany, Italy and Romania.
Agunbiade returned to the Steel City in 2017 to serve as a graduate student manager for Pitt women's basketball team, while pursuing a master of business administration.
The Raptors 905 finished third in the Eastern Conference of the G League last season, posting a 29-21 record. They fell to the eventual runner-up Long Island Nets in the conference semifinals.
