BIMINI, BAHAMAS - Duquesne broke open a tight game with eight second-half 3-pointers in defeating Loyola Marymount, 71-50, to claim the Junkanoo Jam Championship on Sunday at Gateway Christian Academy in Bimini, Bahamas.
Five players hit two 3-pointers for Duquesne, which won three games in four days in Bimini to move to 6-0 for the first time since 2007-08.
Lamar Norman Jr. and
Michael Hughes led the Dukes with 12 points each and
Baylee Steele added 10 to lead Duquesne which shot 45.6 percent.
DU shot 50 percent, including 8-of-15 from 3-point, in outscoring LMU 43-24 in the second half.
Maceo Austin hit a 3-pointer and Hughes added a dunk off a pass from Norman Jr. to put the Dukes - who led by two at the half - up 42-33 with 12 minutes left.
Austin hit another three off a pass from Norman Jr. to make it 50-33. The Dukes put it out of reach when Steele hit a 3-pointer,
Tavian Dunn-Martin was fouled on a 3-point make and converted the free throw and Steele drilled another 3-pointer to make it 60-37.
LMU would get no closer than 16 the rest of the way.
DU, which fell behind 14-2 early, held LMU scoreless for nearly six minutes to pull within four. Norman Jr., who had seven points in the half, gave the Dukes their first lead on a layup that made it 21-20. Hughes extended the DU run to 21-6 with another bucket to put Duquesne up 23-20.
DU took a five-point lead on an
Evan Buckley 3-pointer, before LMU's Erik Johansson hit his third 3-pointer to make it 28-26 at the half.
Duquesne breaks for Thanksgiving prior to hosting VMI at 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 4 at La Roche University (ESPN+).

- Guard Sincere Carry was named the Junkanoo Jam MVP. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Michael Hughes.
- Duquesne's 6-0 start is its best since the 2007-08 team opened 6-0.
- This was the 11th time in the past two seasons - and third time in six games this year - that Duquesne came back from a double-digit deficit to win. DU was down 14-2 at the 14:28 mark of the first half.
- DU's three regular season neutral-site wins are the program's most since 2000-01 (3-2). The Dukes have four regular-season neutral site games remaining (vs. Radford in Akron, vs. Austin Peay & UAB at the St. Pete Shootout and vs. Marshall in Cleveland).
- Norman Jr. gave the Dukes a boost of the bench with 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting (2-of-3 from 3-point). His three steals were one shy of his career high. Â
- Duquesne is now 24-8 in nonconference play under Keith Dambrot.
- Loyola Marymount's largest lead was +12, the last of which was at 14-2 with 14:28 left in the first half ... Duquesne's largest lead was 23, at 60-37 with 6:33 left ...
