@DuqMBB Signs Two to National Letters of Intent

Jett Roesing and Tyson Acuff are first two members of the class of 2020-21

PITTSBURGH – Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Keith Dambrot announced today that guards Jett Roesing (Gibsonia, Pa./First Love Academy) and Tyson Acuff (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) have signed National Letters of Intent, making them the first two members of the 2020-21 recruiting class.

Roesing, a 6-4 shooting guard, averaged 21.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a junior for 18-10 First Love Academy. First Love, located in nearby Washington, Pa., annually faces a demanding national schedule.

Roesing, who shot 47 percent from the 3-point arc last year, played at Sewickley Academy as a freshman and sophomore where he helped the Panthers to back-to-back WPIAL Class 2A titles. He averaged over 15 points per game as a sophomore for Sewickley's PIAA state championship team.

"Jett is one of the best pure shooters I've seen," said Dambrot. "He will add a much-needed dimension with his ability to knock down shots. Jett has worked extremely hard to get where he is, and he really cares about the game of basketball. It's important to us to be able to add a talented local player - who has shown an intense desire to continue to improve - to our program."

Acuff, who has been cited as an early candidate for 2020 Michigan Mr. Basketball, has started for a pair of Detroit Public School League championship teams. The 6-4 point guard averaged 16.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game and shot 76 percent in earning 2019 First Team All-Detroit and honorable mention All-State from the Detroit Free Press last season. Cass Tech is coached by former Duquesne assistant Steve Hall.

"Tyson fits the mold of an athletic Atlantic 10-caliber guard," said Dambrot. "He's strong and physical and is also is a very good ballhandler. He has a pass-first mentality along with the ability to score when needed. He's been well-coached and it shows in the way he shares the basketball. He's one of those guys you like to play with because he understands the game."
