PITTSBURGH – With the Division I basketball early signing period beginning on Wednesday, Duquesne women's basketball head coach
Dan Burt announced that four future Dukes have signed national letters of intent.
The Dukes will welcome Ny Langley, Lindsey Linard, Meg McConnell and Tess Myers to the Bluff in the fall of 2020.
Ny Langley | 5-9 | Combo Guard | Cape Fear CC | Greenville, N.C.
Langley comes to Duquesne from Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C. Last season, the Sea Devils posted a 28-5 record, as Langley averaged 15.7 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 2.8 steals for a team that finished third overall in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championships. An accurate shooter, the Greenville, N.C. native connected on 51.3 percent of her field goal attempts. She posted double-figures in scoring in 29 of 33 games, and registered a season-best 31 points in a 116-105 victory over North Iowa Area Community College.
In high school, Langley led the North Pitt Panthers (Bethel, N.C.) to two state championships in three seasons. In her final game as a senior in the state championship game, Langley recorded 33 points, 16 rebounds and six assists.
Burt on Langley: "Ny is a left-handed combo guard who is equally effective running a team or scoring the ball. She is an east/west player and attacks downhill on offense. She led Cape Fear to a third-place finish at Nationals last year while averaging 15.7 points per game. Ny was also ranked as the ninth best junior college player in the country by Collegiate Basketball Report, which is the highest ranked junior college player we have ever signed."
Lindsey Linard | 6-4 | Center | Medina | Cleveland, Ohio
Linard, a 6-4 center out of Medina High School, heads to the Steel City after being named to the All-Greater Cleveland Conference First Team, all-county team, all-district third team, and earned player of the week honors by both the Beacon Journal and Medina Gazette during her junior campaign in 2018-19. A captain and the team's most valuable player, Linard averaged 9.4 points per game. She posted a season-high 19 points against Washington Courthouse.
Burt on Linard: "Lindsey is a left-handed anchor post. Her current offensive game is suited to the block with a good hook shot and up-and-under move. Lindsey runs well in transition and has a very high upside. Lindsey committed to us early in the recruiting process and we believe we have found a real gem in what her future holds"
Meg McConnell | 5-7 | Point Guard | Chartiers Valley | Pittsburgh, Pa.
McConnell, a two-time all-state selection, helped the Chartiers Valley Colts to an undefeated season in 2018-19, winning WPIAL and PIAA titles along the way. An 1,000-point scorer, she averaged 10.9 points, 4.3 assists and 2.8 steals during the Colts' championship run. When tasked to score more points her sophomore season, McConnell averaged 19 points per game for Chartiers Valley.
Meg's brother, TJ, attended and played basketball at Duquesne from 2010 to 2012 and currently plays for the Indiana Pacers.
Burt on McConnell:
"Meg is a pure point guard from a family that has produced some of the best point guards to ever come out of Western Pennsylvania. She has a high basketball IQ, is a winner and most importantly, a competitor with a killer instinct."
Tess Myers | 5-9 | Guard | North Catholic | Lower Burrell, Pa.
Myers averaged 15.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.3 steals for the Trojans as a junior, earning first team all-state and all-section honors. The Trojans have won WPIAL titles each of the past three seasons with Myers in the lineup. She eclipsed the 1,000 career-point milestone in less than three seasons.
Myers posted accurate shooting numbers across the board, shooting 49 percent from 3-point range, 51 percent from inside the arc and 78 percent from the free-throw line.
Myers father, Joey, graduated and played basketball for Duquesne in the '80s. He played for two NIT teams in 1980 and 1981, totaling 831 points. He was drafted by the New Jersey Nets in 1983.
Burt on Myers: "Tess is a scorer. She has the ability to score in all three levels. Tess has worked very hard with her coaches to maximize her abilities. Dedicated, hardworking, and really wanting to be a Duquesne Duke, makes Tess a great addition to our basketball family."
