Dukes Fall to George Washington in First Match at Mt. Lebanon

PITTSBURGH – In its first home match at Mt. Lebanon High School, the Duquesne Dukes (6-10, 0-3 A-10) fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-20) to George Washington (8-7, 2-0 A10) on Friday night in Atlantic 10 action.

Morgan Kelly led the Dukes' offense 10 kills, while Ego Onu supplied six. The duo of Dani Suiter (12) and Hailey Poling (10) combined for 22 of Duquesne's 28 assists on the night.

Defensively, Ashley Larson matched a season-high with 17 digs, while Claire Boe and Summer Slade each tallied nine digs.

The Dukes will remain in the Steel City, facing George Mason on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening set began even, with neither team gaining a significant edge on the scoreboard until the Colonels put together a 5-1 run to force a Duquesne timeout at 14-10. The Dukes cut the deficit to just one after a 3-0 run, but GW pulled ahead with seven consecutive points to take a 21-13 lead. The Dukes clawed back into the set, with a 9-3 surge to make it a 24-22 match. GW was able to capitalize on its fifth set-point, earning the 25-22 set win.
  • The Colonels jumped to an early 14-4 lead in set number two. After a 3-0 Dukes run sliced the Colonel lead to seven at 14-7, GW built its advantage back up to 23-11. Duquesne did not give up, earning seven consecutive points, but GW eventually tallied a kill on set-point, taking the second set by a score of 25-19.  
  • The Dukes put together its best start to a set in the third frame, taking an early 6-1 advantage. The Colonels would tie the match at 8-8, as both teams would trade points until the GW would finish the match on a 5-2 run with the score at 20-18 to take the third set, 25-20.
