Duquesne put together a dominating performance in winning both the baker (4-1) and traditional portions (5-0) of the season-opening Bud Whitman Memorial over the weekend in Reading, Pa.
Allison Hresko and freshman
Crystal Elliott were named to the baker all-tournament team on Saturday, while
Olivia Farwell and Elliott were named to the traditional all-tournament team on Sunday. Farwell was the Sunday MVP with a tournament-high 218.40 average. Elliott placed fifth individually with a 210.80.
The 20th-ranked Dukes posted a program record 1111-945 win over Molloy in their fourth baker match and followed that with a 1066-870 win over Kutztown - the third-highest score in program history - to close out the day.
Duquesne carried it over to day two, opening traditional play with a 1050-831 win over Caldwell. DU also topped the 1,000-pin total in wins over Mount Aloysius (1011-856) and Coppin State (1032-740).
Hresko finished 15th overall individually with a 197.00 average and sophomore
Jessica Cadez placed 20th with a 188.40.
"That was an amazing way to start the season," said head coach
Jody Fetterhoff. "We got off to slow start in the baker round, but came back to shoot a program record 1111 and follow that with another solid game to win the baker portion. On Sunday, we led from start to finish and were able to hold on in the last game to get our second win. We averaged over 200 and went 9-1 on the weekend so we couldn't have asked for a better start."
Duquesne returns to action next weekend at the Mount Shootout at Terrace Lanes in Frederick, Md.
