Duquesne (1-2-0) got goals from Rob Dymond (24'), Zion Beaton (56') and Zach Hall (87') in posting a 3-0 win over Detroit Mercy (1-3-0). Freshman Dominic Nascimben stopped six shots in posting a shutout in his first career start. DU returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 12 against Saint Francis U  at 7:00 p.m. on Rooney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Duquesne controlled play in the first half, outshooting Detroit Mercy 14-4.
  • The Dukes got on the board in the 24th minute when freshman Rob Dymond took a pass from fellow freshman Manel Busquets, 10 yards above the box. The solidly struck ball glanced off a UDM defender and found its way to the right corner for Dymond's first career goal.
  • Noah Mehta nearly made it 2-0, but his shot from beyond the top of the box sailed just high of the crossbar in the 44th minute.
  • Garret Weaver nearly tied it for UDM when his header bounced off the crossbar 52nd minute.
  • Zion Beaton made it 2-0 when he took a pass from Busquets between two defenders and slid it in the right side from close range.
  • Zach Hall tapped in a rebounded Zion Beaton shot in the 87th minute for the final tally.
  • Busquets assisted on both the Dymond and Beaton goals.
  • Duquesne finished with a 28-11 advantage in shots, including a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.
  • DU finished with 16 corners to five for the Titans.
  • Duquesne had 14 shots in each half.
  • The Dukes, who have started at least six freshmen in all three matches this season, started seven freshmen for the second consecutive match: Manel Busquets, Nathan Dossantos, Rob Dymond, Moritz Kappelsberger, Kendall Newman, Eric Zech and Dominic Nascimben in goal. It was the first start for Nascimben who hails from Sydney, Australia. Six of the seven freshmen starters vs. UDM are international players.

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH CHASE BROOKS

"We've been working hard to make sure that this field means something to everyone here. We were 15-5-1 in nonconference home in my first five years here - that is the standard that we've set. This has to be a fortress for us.
"We spend a lot of time talking about family and working hard for one another. That's what it's about first and foremost. Our freshmen are a part of that family and they're stepping up in a big way, so we appreciate that."
