Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saint Francis Slips by @DuqMSoccer

Duke fall to Red Flash, 1-0

Leonardo Ribeiro's goal in the 68th minute proved to be the difference as Saint Francis U (3-2) defeated Duquesne (1-3) on Rooney Field. The two teams finished with 12 shots each. DU had four shots on goal to three for the Red Flash. DU will look to get back on the winning track when it hosts Temple on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 7:00 p.m. The first 100 students to the Temple game will receive complimentary soccer scarves as part of DU's Sunday Night Futbol promotion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Duquesne had great chance in the 10th minute when Manel Busquets took a pass from Zion Beaton and advanced down the left side, beat a defender and crossed it to a sliding Zach Hall who was unable to convert.
  • SFU starting keeper Jonas Dieseler was forced to leave the game in the 18th minute after colliding with DU's Zion Beaton.
  • SFU's Ribeiro had shots slide wide left of the net in the 23rd and 24th minutes.
  • Hall lined a shot through traffic off the bottom of the left post in the 58th minute.
  • SFU's Ryan Berhorst lined a shot off the right post in the 61st minute. The shot ricocheted back to Berhorst who was unable to get a second touch on the ball.
  • Ribeiro's goal came after a scrum in front of the net following an SFU corner.
  • Beaton found Nathan Dossantos with a through-ball in the 75th minute but Dossantos' shot from inside the box sailed high.
  • Alex Morgret came off the bench to finish with four saves for SFU.
  • DU's Domenic Nascimben had two saves for the Dukes.
  • Hall and Busquets led DU with three shots each.
  • The Dukes, who have started at least six freshmen in all four matches this season, started seven freshman for the third consecutive match.

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH CHASE BROOKS
"I thought defensively we put in a very good shift, but it still comes down to the little details. You can't gift a team opportunities, especially when you can't accept those opportunities yourself. We had numerous chances to score goals tonight. We could have been up 2-0 in the first 20 minutes, but that's what happens in Division I soccer, somebody's going to take it and we need it to be us next time."
