Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Dukes defeat Jacksonville 3-0

Home Opening Heroics

Lauren Bell's goal in the 47th minute was the only score Duquesne need in its 3-0 home opening victory over Jacksonville on Friday night. Kyra Murphy made three saves to record her 21st career shutout. With the victory, the Dukes earn their first victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bell's goal was set up by Abby Losco, who created a turnover just shy of midfield – she found Bell from 17 yards out who chipped the ball past the JU keeper Kristian Shores on the right side from seven yards away
  • Following a scrum after a corner kick in the 49th minute, Bell headed the ball to Deena DeBaldo whose shot from 22 yard away bounced over Shores head and into the goal
  • Hannah Nguyen sealed the contest in the 56th minute after Tori Kopchak dribbled around a JU defender and found her on the left hand side for the score
  • The Dukes improve to 13-9-3 in Rooney Field home openers
  • Murphy recorded career shutout 21 which ties the school record with Kelly O'Neill ('98)
  • Duquesne came up short on two penalty kicks in the match

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH AL ALVINE
"Last weekend was tough, so it was important for us to come back and play the type of soccer we usually play. I thought we dominated the game from start-to-finish and it was good to come out and score three goals and not concede any. This was a good team effort as a whole."
