Preview: @DuqMSoccer Opens at Marshall

Dukes and Thundering Herd Meet Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Duquesne men's soccer (0-0-0) opens its 24th season at Marshall's (0-0-0) Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Dukes are 12-9-2 all-time in season openers, including a 2-5-2 mark when opening on the road. DU is 3-1-1 in opening games under sixth-year head coach Chase Brooks (1-1-1 on the road), including a 0-0 tie at Marshall on Aug. 29, 2014 (Brooks' second season). DU follows the Marshall game with five in a row at home.

THE SERIES
  • The is the sixth game in the series which is tied at 2-2-1. It is the fourth meeting in the past five seasons between the Dukes and Thundering Herd.
  • In the only other meeting in Huntington, W.Va., DU and MU tied 0-0 (2OT) on Aug. 29, 2014.
  • Marshall has won the past two, 1-0 on Sept. 4, 2015 and 3-1 on Aug. 31, 2017. Both games were on Rooney Field.

  • Duquesne is in its sixth season under head coach Chase Brooks. Brooks has led the Dukes to three Atlantic 10 Conference tournament appearances (2013, 2015 & 2016).
  • The Dukes return six starters in junior forward Zach Hall (17 games/17 starts), junior defender/midfielder Ryan Landry (15/14), senior defender/midfielder Ian Larson (15/15), senior midfielder Noah Mehta (10/10), senior midfielder Austin Stout (17/17) and junior goalkeeper Robbie McKelvey (15/15, 1,280 minutes).

  • The Dukes have 15 first-year players on the 2018 roster including 14 freshmen and junior Pitt transfer M Alec Anselmo. Anselmo played in 30 matches with 16 starts in two seasons with the Panthers.
  • Of the 15 newcomers, eight are international players: F Manel Busquets (Spain), M/F Denis Celik (Germany), D/M Nathan Dossantos (Canada), D/M Rob Dymond (New Zealand), D Moritz Kappelsberger (Germany), GK Dominic Nascimben (Australia), M/F Gylfi Stefansson (Iceland) and F Eric Zech (Germany).
  • Overall, DU has 10 international players, including returners seniors Noah Mehta (Canada) and Olav Hovstad (Norway).
