Arkansas defeats Duquesne 1-0

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The 2018 Duquesne's women's soccer season started Friday night with a 1-0 setback against Arkansas in the first match of the Penn State Invitational.

The Razorbacks' Kayla McKinnon put the ball past the outstretched arms of Dukes keeper Kyra Murphy in the 37th minute for the only tally of the match. In the defensive battle, only one other shot on goal was mustered when Murphy stopped Emily Russell in the 51st minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKinnon's goal was set up by Tyler Runnels and Taylor Malham
  • The Dukes started four freshmen in Alex Saturni, Hannah Nguyen, Kayla Winicki and Sarah Wilkinson and had two more come off the bench in Alyssa Victor and Sydney Routch
  • Arkansas had seven corner kicks to Duquesne two
  • The Dukes held the Razorbacks top two scorers from last season Parker Goins and Stefani Doyle without a shot
  • The match was delayed 55 minutes due to lightning
 DUQUESNE HEAD COACH AL ALVINE
"I am very pleased with our competiveness and willingness to battle on every level. We have several new faces on the team that are really starting to find their feet and contribute, so it has been fun to watch them grow and connect with our returners."
