PITTSBURGH – Former Duquesne guard Belma Nurkic has signed with the expansion Steel City Queens of the Women's American Basketball Association. The team plays its home games at A Giving Heart Community Center in Pittsburgh's Allentown neighborhood.
This is Nurkic's second professional team, she played for KFUM Östersund Basket in Sweden in 2016, finishing the regular season averaging 10.1 points, 6.54 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.4 steals per game.
In the playoffs, she led Östersund to the Swedish BasketEttan Group North Second League championship where she averaged 12 points per contest.
One of only 13 players in Duquesne history to record over 100 3-pointers, Nurkic set a program-record her senior season when she converted 93.8 percent of her free throws. She graduated as Duquesne's all-time leader in games played with 131. The Pittsburgh native, who was born in Bosnia, led the Class of 2015 with 87 victories.
Nurkic earned her bachelor's degree in sociology in December 2014.
