ORLANDO, Fla. - The Duquesne women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Tennis Championship after a 4-0 victory over La Salle on Wednesday morning.
The Dukes won doubles after Kylie Isaacs and Julianne Herman defeated Tiffany Theophil and Alison Snyder at #1, 6-1. Laurel Shymansky and Maranda Sears beat Alexandra Santarelli and Jayla Smith at #3, 6-4 at the #3 spot to clinch the doubles point. Aishwarya Kona and Sara Mitrovic were leading 5-3 at #2 when the point was decided.
In singles, the Dukes dominated, dropping only one game in completed matches. Isaacs and Shymansky were 6-0, 6-0 winners over Theophil and Brittany Poje respectively. Kona ended the match after a 6-0, 6-1 win against Santarelli. Herman was leading at #2 7-5, 4-0. Miller was ahead at #5, 6-5 and Mitrovic led at #6, 6-0, 4-0 .
"We came out ready to play today," said director of tennis Vanessa Steiner. "We calmed our nerves fast and stepped up our intensity. The team had good energy from start-to-finish and were in control of the match. We found a way to make it a home court advantage. We're going to enjoy the win and start to focus on Richmond."
The #4 seed Dukes (15-4) will play #5 seed Richmond (8-11) on Friday at 3PM. The team did not meet in the regular season.

- This is the fifth straight year that the Dukes have advanced to the quarterfinal round
- This was Duquesne's 15th win of the year, tying the third most amount in program history
- Duquesne and Richmond have met twice -- the Spiders won 4-3 in 2016 and the Dukes were 4-3 winners last year
- Isaacs and Herman improve to 15-2 at #1 doubles and have won six straight matches
- Sears and Shymansky are now 11-1 at #3 doubles and have won nine straight matches
