DETROIT - The Duquesne lacrosse team netted a season-high 19 goals paced by five scores by senior attacker
Jill Vacanti (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) in a 19-15 triumph over host Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field.
The Dukes close out non-conference action with the win, improving to 2-5 on the season while the Titans dropped to 3-4 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the score knotted at 7-7 with 9:34 to play in the first half, the Dukes closed the half by scoring six of the next seven goals, inlcuding a pair by freshman midfielder
Carlee Braverman (Laurel, N.J./Lenape). This gave Duquesne a 13-8 halftime lead.
- The Titans opened the second half with a goal before DU answered with three straight goals, two coming from Vacanti, to give the Dukes their largest lead of the game at 16-9.
- Duquesne held that seven-goal advantage at 18-11 with just over eight minutes to play, before the Titans responded with four consecutive goals to shrink the deficit to 18-15 at the 1:42 mark of the second half.
- Junior attacker
Megan Buettner's (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) fourth goal of the game with just over a minute remaining sealed the four-goal victory for the Dukes.
KEY STATS
- Vacanti's five goals represent a season-high. She leads the Dukes with 18 goals on the season.
- Buettner added four goals and three ground balls for Duquesne while Braverman added a hat trick with three draw controls.
- Junior midfielder
Sarah Kollhoff (Exton, Pa./Downington) chipped in two goals and an assist for DU.
- Sophomore midfielder
Maddie Hart (Sykesville, Md./Century) recorded 10 draw controls for the Dukes.
- Duquesne held a 38-25 shooting edge and advantages of 21-14 in draw controls and 20-17 in ground balls.

The Dukes have 12 days until their next contest when they open Atlantic 10 play hosting St. Bonaventure on Thursday, March 29 at 3 p.m. ET at Arthur J. Rooney Field. The game against the Bonnies is the first of three conseuctive home contests for Duquesne.
