Duquesne earns first-ever victory over Penn State 64-58

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -  Julijana Vojinovic scored 16 points and Amanda Kalin put up a career-high 15 in Duquesne's 64-58 victory over Penn State on Wednesday evening.
 
Paige Cannon recorded her fourth career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Libby Bazelak tied her career-high with seven assists. Kadri-Ann Lass added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Dukes (4-3) who are winners of three straight.
 
Kamaria McDaniel scored a game-high 18 for PSU (5-4)
 
Although it took over four minutes for the Dukes to make their first field goal, they were able to keep pace with the Lady Lions and took their first lead of the game on Kalin's 3-pointer at 1:16 of the 1st quarter (14-13).
 
PSU would see its largest lead of the game after a Teniya Page 3-pointer at 7:50 of the 2nd quarter (23-17), but DUQ would answer with three straight baskets to tie the contest at the 5:24 mark. The teams would both come up empty on the next five combines possessions. With PSU ahead 29-26, Kalin beat the buzzer to send the game into halftime with the Lady Lions up one point.
 
Cannon's layup 13 seconds into the 3rd quarter put the Dukes ahead by one and gave them a lead they would not relinquish The Dukes would stay ahead and increased their advantage to seven points on Bazelak's layup that made the score 44-37 with 3:07 left.
 
Duquesne would see a lead of eight points after Vojinovic's free throws made the score 59-51 at 4:02 of the 4th quarter.
 
Page's layup with 28 seconds remaining made it a two-possession game at 62-58, but Vojinovic drained a pair from the line on the ensuing possession. The Duquesne defense clamped down as the Lady Lions missed their final three shots and eight of their last 10.
