Brantley Named to NCAA DI Women's Volleyball Committee

Begins four-year appointment this fall

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University Associate Athletic Director for Academic & Student Services and Senior Women's Administrator Sherene Brantley has been named to the 10-person NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee it was announced this week. Her appointment will run from 2018-19 through 2021-22.

As a member of the committee, Brantley will be charged with enhancing the development and public perception of women's volleyball. The committee makes recommendations related to regular-season and postseason play and is responsible for selecting and seeding the field for the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.

"The sport of volleyball has been transformative in my life," said Brantley, who previously served as a member - and eventual chair - of the NCAA Sportmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee from 2015-18. "I am grateful for the opportunity to give back as a member of this committee. I look forward to serving with an outstanding group of peers."

Additional committee responsibilities include assisting in the oversight of a region subcommittee as well as serving as a NCAA site representative for one of the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Regional rounds. All committee members attend the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.

"Sherene's background as a former Division I student-athlete combined with her administrative experience make her a perfect fit for the women's volleyball committee," said Duquesne Director of Athletics Dave Harper. "Her passion for the sport as well as her detailed knowledge of the game and understanding of the landscape of women's volleyball will make her a valuable asset to this committee."

Brantley, Duquesne's program administrator for volleyball and women's basketball, was a four-year volleyball letterwinner for the Dukes from 1998-01. Still ranked in DU's Top 10 for career kills, Brantley (then Lemonias), an outside hitter, was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 and Academic All-Conference as a senior. She joined Duquesne's athletic department as a graduate assistant in 2002.

Brantley currently oversees academic and student services for Duquesne's 400-plus student-athletes.
