Dukes see three-game unbeaten streak snapped in 3-2 defeat

St. Bonaventure's Jon-Michael Perkins scored in the 90th minute to give the Bonnies a 3-2 win over the Dukes at SBU's Marra Athletics Complex. The SBU win (7-8-1, 3-4) ended Duquesne's (4-8-3, 2-3-2) three-game unbeaten streak. Zach Hall (11') and Moritz Kappelsberger (28') scored for the Dukes, who outshot the Bonnies 13-5. Duquesne completes the regular season with a home game vs. Davidson on Oct. 31.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Noah Mehta put Duquesne's first shot on goal in the 10th minute.
  • Mehta's shot started a wild two minutes as SBU's Shea Currey took a pass from Kosi Nwafornso and put it far post from 15 yards out to give the Bonnies a 1-0 lead.
  • Duquesne's Zach Hall answered less than 40 seconds later when he took a long ball from Ian Larson off the ensuing kickoff and scored from 25 yards out to make it 1-1 in the 11th minute. It was the second goal of the season for Hall.
  • The Dukes took a 2-1 lead when Moritz Kappelsberger buried a penalty kick in the 28th minute. It was the second goal of the season for the freshman.
  • DU's Austin Stout nearly made it 3-1 when his shot hit the crossbar in the 41st minute.
  • The Dukes outshot the Bonnies 8-2, including 3-1 on goal in the opening 45.
  • The Bonnies tied it right out of the half on a penalty kick goal from Nwafornso - his team-high ninth - in the 47th minute.
  • Perkins took a pass from Anthony Gaglianese and scored from 20 yards out with :38 left for what proved to be the game-winner.
  • Duquesne outshot St. Bonaventure 5-2 in the second half prior to Perkins' goal.
  • The Dukes outshot the Bonnies 13-5, including 4-3 on goal. DU had eight corners to four for SBU.
  • Duquesne, which has started at least six freshmen in all 15 matches this season, started six first-year players.

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH CHASE BROOKS
"The Atlantic 10 is a tough conference. Every game is going to be a battle. You have to show up and stick to your task and give 100 percent of what you've got, and our guys learned the hard way that if you give anything less, and you don't stick to task, you're not going to get the result you need. We need to prepare for Wednesday and we look forward to it."
