Friday Matinée

Patriots win 3-0

Mother Nature delayed Duquesne's match against George Mason by 16 hours as the teams had to move their contest from Thursday night to Friday morning. The Patriots scored a pair of goals in the 1st half and added another in the 2nd half to come away with a 3-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mason's Emma van der Vorst – the A-10 leading goal and point scorer – got the Patriots on the board with a header in the 18th minute
  • Nia Elbeck and Emily Littell added goals for Mason in the 23rd and 52nd minutes respectively
  • Janie Romer made her first career start for Duquesne and had seven saves
  • Romer was one of 12 freshmen that saw action today and one of six who started
  • Each team has 14 shots – Mason 10 on goal, DUQ nine
  • Tori Kopchak and Alyssa Victor each had a pair of shots on goal

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH AL ALVINE
"While we're all disappointed with the result, I credit the team for their effort and their ability to deal with adverse circumstances beyond our control. This is the youngest group I've ever coached and they've handled everything that's been thrown at them with tremendous composure and a phenomenal attitude. The score doesn't reflect how well we played and how hard we competed. We'll go back to work tomorrow and prepare for Davidson on Sunday."
