DAVIDSON, N.C. - Paige Cannon scored a career-high 19 points to lead Duquesne (12-3, 2-0 A-10) to a 79-54 win over Davidson (5-10, 0-2 A-10) on Thursday night at Belk Arena.
The Dukes outscored the Wildcats 26-6 in the 4th quarter, making 83 percent of their shots (10-of-12).
Kadri-Ann Lass scored a season-high 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked seven shots. Chassidy Omogrosso added 15 points and five assists.
Mackenzie Latt had a team-high 14 points for Davidson.
A back-and-forth 1st quarter saw nine lead changes. Back-to-back layups from Eniko Kuttor and Amanda Kalin put the Dukes up 16-13 at the end of the quarter. Cannon scored nine points in the opening 10 minutes.
Conor Richardson's free throw gave the Dukes its largest lead of the 2nd quarter - nine points at 37-28 - with 2:09 to play. Davidson would cut the deficit to five points at halftime 39-34.
A 3-pointer by Cannon at 7:14 of the 3rd quarter gave the Dukes its first double-figure lead of the contest at 47-36. Omogrosso's free throw 17 seconds later put Duquesne ahead 48-36 before a 9-0 run got Davidson within three points at the 4:04 mark. Lass closed the scoring with a jumper to put the Dukes up 53-48 at the end of the quarter.
It was all Duquesne in the 4th quarter as a Lass 3-pointer started a 16-2 run, giving the Dukes a 69-50 lead at the midway point. Davidson would only record two more field goals the rest of they as the Dukes' defense held the Wildcats scoreless for the final 4:30.
The Dukes bus to Richmond, Va. tomorrow morning and will play VCU (3-11, 0-2 A-10) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 P.M.
