Five Spot

Jallah Acqui (36') scored for the second time in as many games and Duquesne added second-half goals from Olav Hovstad (57'), George Poppas (60') and freshman Tyrese Edwards (76' & 78') in posting a 5-0 win over Bloomsburg in DU's 2017 home opener on Rooney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Dukes, who outshot the Huskies 15-0 in the opening 45 minutes, applied pressure early with three shots in the first four minutes.
  • Noah Mehta hit the crossbar on a long drive in the eighth minute.
  • Tyrese Edwards, who entered the game in the 29th minute, took a cross from Liam Harmon and had a shot from inside the six turned away by a Taylor Lesage right hand in the 30th minute.
  • Fredrik Borenstein, who entered the game with Edwards, hit the right post one minute later.
  • Jallah Acqui broke the ice when he took a straight-line pass from Olav Hovstad and chipped it over a charging Lesage from 30 yards out in the 36th minute. It was the second goal in as many games for the DU sophomore.
  • The Dukes took a 2-0 lead when Hovstad headed a drive from Austin Stout into the left corner in the 57th minute.
  • Just under three minutes later, George Poppas took a cross from Acqui and beat Lesage to the left corner to make it 3-0.
  • Edwards took a pass from fellow freshman Jesper Evensen down the right side and beat Lesage in the 76th minute.
  • Evensen and Edwards combined again for another goal in the 78th minute.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Robbie McKelvey, who was making his first career appearance in net, and Scott Rissler combined to post the team shutout.
  • Duquesne's five goals tied its high under Chase Brooks (5-0 at St. Bonaventure on Oct. 12, 2014).
