Dukes Defeat Pair of Ranked Teams at Hawk Flight Invite

Hawk Flight Invite Results

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne placed 10th of 16 teams at the Hawk Flight Invite in Egg Harbor, N.J. over the weekend. The Dukes, who finished with a record of 7-6, were one of eight teams to finish the weekend above .500 in a field that included nine teams ranked in the Top 25.

Duquesne highlighted the weekend with a 137-pin win over No. 5 Vanderbilt (912-775) in addition to a win over No. 20 Franklin Pierce. Three of DU's losses were by 30 pins or less, including a 15-pin loss to No. 23 Youngstown and 30 pin loss to Franklin Pierce.

Cassidy Powers finished 13th overall shooting 971 for an average of 194.20, as all five DU starters placed among the top 40 in the 111-woman field.

The Dukes shot 3289 during Sunday's bracket play, averaging 182.72 over 18 games. DU upped its record to 49-44 record for the season.

"I'm really happy with how this team performed against a lot of really good teams on a very difficult low scoring pattern," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff. "We had three subpar matches in the first two days, but the team bounced back averaging 180.6 in the other seven matches. The day-to-day improvement was pretty significant and they had their best match of the season to start Sunday. It was a great way to end the regular season and we hope to continue to bowl this well as we compete in the USBC Sectionals this weekend to extend our season."
