RICHMOND, Va. - Conor Richardson (career-high 17) and
Chassidy Omogrosso (20) combined for 37 points to lead No. 7-seed Duquesne (18-14) to a 78-63 victory over No. 3-seed Saint Joseph's in the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Dukes advance to their second consecutive title game.
Amadea Szamosi scored 14 and Kadri-Ann Lass and Julijana Vojinovic each added 11 for the Dukes.
Alyssa Monaghan and Amanda Fioravanti each scored 16 points for Saint Joseph's (17-14).
FIRST QUARTER
Duquesne had a great quarter shooting-wise, making 60 percent of their shots (9-of-15, 4-of-7 3-pointers). Vojinovic was perfect was a perfect 3-of-3 including a pair of 3-pointers and two assists. Her 3-pointer at 2:11 gave Duquesne their largest lead of the half - 14 points at 22-8.
SECOND QUARTER
After Omogrosso's 3-pointer at 6:25 kept the Dukes ahead by 12, Saint Joseph's scored the next seven points to cut the deficit to five points at 30-25 with 3:39 remaining. Vojinovic's foul shots closed out the scoring with Duquesne taking a 38-29 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
SJU outscored Duquesne 15-7 in the quarter and briefly took the lead in the final minute of play for 14 seconds. Richardson's foul shots gave the Dukes the back 45-44 heading into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
Duquesne had its highest scoring quarter of the season - 33 points - and its best shooting performance making 81 percent (9-of-11) of its shots. The Dukes also were 14-of-15 from the line in the quarter. Duquesne scored the first seven points of the quarter and never looked back. Richardson scored 13 points in the quarter and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. The Dukes' lead reached 18 points in the final minute of play.
UP NEXT
The Dukes will take on No. 1 seed Dayton (21-9). The teams will take the court Sunday at noon. The championship will be televised on ESPNU
