@DuqWBB Falls Short at Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Conor Richardson's 3-pointer did not fall as time expired, lifting Rhode Island to a 71-69 victory at the Ryan Center Saturday afternoon.

Chassidy Omogrosso matched a career-high 25 points (which included a career-high six 3-pointers) and Julijana Vojinovic added 16 points for the Dukes (14-14, 7-8 A-10), who shot 43.1 percent for the game.

Charise Wilson led the way with 25 points and five rebounds for URI (5-22, 1-14 A-10) and Dominique Ward scored 10 points.

FIRST QUARTER

URI would hold the advantage throughout the entire quarter. Duquesne came within one point of tying the score twice, but Dominique Ward's buzzer-beating layup made the score 13-10 in favor of the Rams.

SECOND QUARTER
A Kadri-Ann Lass 3-pointer sparked a 17-0 run, giving Duquesne a 31-21 lead with 1:44 left. Rhode Island would answer with a 7-0 run, bringing URI within three points at 31-28 heading into halftime.

THIRD QUARTER

Duquesne opened with a 7-0 run, extending its lead to 38-28 with 6:26 remaining. An Angela Staffileno layup at the 3:58 mark gave the Dukes their largest lead of the game - up 12 points - at 43-31. An 8-0 run by URI would bring the Rams within three points with 16 seconds to go, however an and-1 by Omogrosso gave the Dukes a 53-47 advantage to close the quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER
Richardson's layup with 31 seconds left tied the game at 68-68. A pair of free throws by Wilson put URI up two points at 70-68 with 24 seconds remaining. Lass' free throw with eight seconds on the clock brought Duquesne within one point at 70-69, however Ward's free throw with six to go would close the scoring for both teams.

GAME NOTES
  • Omogrosso also scored 25 at St. John's (11/17/16)
  • Vojinovic tied a career-high with five assists
  • The Dukes tied a season-high with 11 3-pointers
  • Wilson's 25 points was the most scored against Duquesne this season
