QUICK RECAP:
The Duquesne women's soccer team improved their overall record to 5-3-2, with a 1-0 victory over Richmond Thursday night on Rooney Field in the Atlantic 10 opener. With the win, the Dukes now have five shutouts for the season.
Duquesne capitalized on their first scoring opportunity of the game when an Abby Losco header beat Richmond keeper Katie Brennan in the 6th minute.
Losco had another scoring attempt in the 18th minute, however her shot from point blank range was stopped by Brennan.
Richmond's Lexi Prillaman had a chance to put the Spiders on the board in the 37th minute, but her shot went inches high, leaving the score 1-0 in favor of the Dukes heading into halftime.
Prillaman would go on to record four of Richmond's seven shots in the second half, including an attempt in the 75th minute, which resulted in a diving save by Murphy.
Murphy made five saves total, holding Richmond scoreless through the game's entirety.
COACH ALVINE QUOTE: "It was a highly contested and physical contest, as all Atlantic 10 games are, and for us to get three points opening night is huge. The win allows us to gain some momentum heading into Sunday against VCU."
UP NEXT: The Dukes will compete in their second A-10 matchup of the season as they host VCU on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Rooney Field.
