QUICK RECAP:

The Duquesne women's soccer team tallied its first win of the 2016-17 season against Pittsburgh Sunday night, as the Dukes topped the Panthers 2-0.

The Panthers were unable to capitalize in the 13th minute when Kyra Murphy blocked two shots and a header in a 20 second timeframe.

The Dukes were held scoreless until Casey Aunkst's shot off the crossbar resulted in a header from Malea Fabean, beating Pitt goalkeeper Taylor Francis in the 37th minute. Going into the half, Duquesne held a 1-0 lead over the Panthers.

The Dukes saw their next scoring opportunity when a shot from Abby Losco grazed the post in the 59th minute. With 14 minutes remaining, the Panthers nearly found the back of the net, but Murphy's diving save kept Pittsburgh's Hanna Hannesdottir from scoring.

A pass from Cydney Staton enabled Katie O'Connor's goal in the 80th minute, securing Duquesne's lead.

COACH ALVINE QUOTE:

"Pitt is a good team, we had to be organized. We were able to withstand pressure and got the late goal in the end to help us. Kyra was fantastic today. Her main responsibility was to manage the game today. This is a resilient bunch of kids. To be able to turn it around and get the result like this speaks a lot about this team."

UP NEXT:

The Dukes face Youngstown State next Sunday at 1 p.m. on Rooney Field.
