Dr. Deitrick, who was named assistant athletic director for student services, was most recently director of athletics at nearby North Hills High School.
“We are very blessed to be adding Kevin and John to our athletic family,” said Harper. “As we strategically focus on academic excellence and competitive performance, we have added two individuals with a unique set of skills and talents to be able to implement our plans in these areas. We will continue to assemble a very talented team to develop Duquesne’s student-athletes.”
Henderson was instrumental in developing and implementing a high performance training model integrating sports medicine with strength, nutrition, and athlete wellness while at Weber State. A certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a certified athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers Association board of certification, Henderson is also certified by USA Weightlifting and a Level 1 sports performance coach.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in clinical athletic training from Weber State and a master of science degree in sports conditioning and performance from Southern Utah University.
Dr. Deitrick spent six years in the Duquesne athletics student services department prior to accepting the AD position at North Hills.
The Pittsburgh native spent 10 years as an administrator, assistant athletic director, coach and social studies teacher at the high school level prior to his first stint at Duquesne. He held those various positions while working in the highly regarded Upper St. Clair and North Allegheny School Districts. He served as AD at North Hills for three years.
A graduate of Canevin High School, Deitrick completed his bachelor’s degree in history and education at Washington & Jefferson in 1993. While at W&J he competed for the golf team.
Deitrick holds K-12 principal and social studies secondary education certifications, a doctorate in educational instructional leadership and a master’s degree in history from Duquesne.
He has also taught history courses as an adjunct professor in the DU liberal arts department.
