July 28, 2016 Former Duquesne guard Belma Nurkic has recently finished her first season playing for KFUM Östersund Basket in Sweden.
Nurkic joined the team in January of this year, playing eight games. She finished the regular season averaging 10.1 points, 6.54 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.4 steals per game.
In the playoffs, she led Östersund to the Swedish BasketEttan Group North Second League championship where she averaged 12 points per contest.
With the title, Östersund gets promoted to the First League next season.
One of only 12 players in Duquesne history to record over 100 3-pointers, Nurkic set a program-record her senior season when she converted 93.8 percent of her free throws. The Pittsburgh native, who was born in Bosnia, led the Class of 2015 with 87 victories.
Nurkic earned her bachelor's degree in sociology in 2014.
