Former Duquesne point guard Vanessa Abel has recently finished her third season playing for Alba Iulia in Romania.

In 17 Liga Nationala League games, Abel averaged 6.6 points and 4.3 assists per game, leading Alba Iulia to a 12-5 record in those contests.

The team also played in the Central European Women's League, where Abel averaged 12.7 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in three games.

Abel spent last season with 08 Stockholm in the Damligan League in Sweden. Although she joined the team midway through the season, she finished in the top 10 of the league in three categories. Abel averaged 15.6 points per game, which was fifth best. Her 3.2 assists per game ranked 10th and 3.9 steals per game was second, just 0.1 behind former Morgan State guard Corin Adams.

Prior to playing in Sweden, Abel started her overseas career with the GiroLive Panthers in the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga League in Germany. She finished with 9.7 points per game, 2.5 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game A starter in 84 of her 104 games, Abel finished her Duquesne career seventh in steals with 210, ninth all-time with 371 assists and ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (.386). She was named 2011 Atlantic 10 Third-Team All-Conference. She led the Dukes to a 56-24 record as a starter.
