Former Duquesne center Jose-Ann Johnson has signed a professional contract with the Visby Ladies of the Damligan Laegue in Sweden. This marks 10 Duquesne players that have signed professional contracts to play overseas that have been coached by Dan Burt.
Visby is located on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, 130 miles south of Stockholm.
The 6-4 Johnson finished her senior season by becoming the all-time single-season shot block leader with 76, which was second in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Brampton, Ontario native finished her career with 112 blocks which is sixth all-time in Duquesne history. She also led the team in rebounds, averaging 6.2 per game in 2014-15.
Johnson led the class of 2015 to 87 victories and four straight postseason appearances.
"Jose-Ann Johnson is a player who was never satisfied," said Burt. "She didn't play early in her career very much. But it did not affect her work ethic. Her junior and senior years were very good, all because of her determination, talent and grit. It is a great blessing to see Jose sign her first pro contract. It's been a dream of hers and we could not be happier for her."
