PITTSBURGH - Derrick Colter led six Duquesne players in double figures with a career-high 28 points as Duquesne weathered a second-half 3-point barrage to defeat Omaha, 120-112, in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational.

Both Duquesne and Omaha broke the CBI single-game scoring record set by Creighton in a 102-92 win over Davidson in 2011. This is the ninth year for the CBI.

The 232 combined points were the most in Duquesne history.

Jordan Robinson added a career-high 17 points off the bench and Eric James, L.G. Gill and Micah Mason scored 16 each for the Dukes who tied the fourth-highest point total in school history.

Devin Patterson led Omaha with a game-high 37 points, including 33 in the second half.

The win, DU's fourth post-season tournament victory (NCAA/NIT/CBI) in the past 47 years, sends the Dukes to Kentucky for a second round match-up with Morehead State (20-12) on Monday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Duquesne countered an 80-point Omaha second half - which included 13 3-pointers - by hitting 19-of-25 shots from the field and 25-of-31 from the foul line as the teams combined for 149 points in the final 20 minutes.

"I'm not going to lie to you, I thought it was going to be a 95 to 100 point game, just because of the pace and the tempo," said Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry. "When I watched the tapes, I saw the explosiveness and relentlessness they come at you with and I knew it was going to be a high-scoring game."

Darius Lewis, who scored all 10 of his points in the first half, scored six of DU's first 11 points. The Dukes, who shot 62.7 percent for the game, made it 24-8 on back-to-back 3-pointers by James and Mason.

The Dukes maintained at least an 11-point lead for the rest of the half that ended with a Colter 3-pointer at the horn that made it 51-32.

Omaha got seven points from Jake White and a pair of 3-pointers from Patterson to cut the lead to nine just over three minutes into the second half.

The Mavericks, who hit six of their first seven 3-point attempts in the half, made it 68-61 on a Tre'Shawn Thurman bucket with 12:20 left.

UNO made it 78-75 on their eighth 3-pointer of the half - this one by White - with 7:37 remaining.

Mar'Qywell Jackson answered with a big 3-pointer from the left corner and James and Robinson followed with buckets to build the lead back to 10.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Colter and Gill made it a 14-point game with just under five minutes left.

Omaha tried to extend the game by fouling late, but Robinson and Colter combined to hit 13 free throws over the final two minutes.

Duquesne made its last 11 shots.

"For our first post-season game in a while - to win it any way is good," said Ferry.

NOTES

• This is just the seventh time in the past 43 years that a Duquesne team has posted 17 wins.

• The 232 combined points were the most ever in a Duquesne game ... the previous record was 224 set in a 116-108 double-overtime loss at Virginia Tech in the first round of the 2009 NIT ... the effort also shattered the CBI combined record of 194 set in a 102-92 Creighton win over Davidson on March 21, 2011 ... Creighton's 102 points, which were the most ever scored in a CBI game, were eclipsed by both Duquesne and Omaha.

• The 120 points tied the fourth-highest total in Duquesne history.

Derrick Colter went 14-of-15 from the foul line in scoring a career-high 28 points ... Colter's previous high was 27, which he reached twice this season vs. Milwaukee and La Salle ... Colter added 9 assists and tied for team high with 6 rebounds.

• Sophomore center Jordan Robinson, who entered the game having attempted 17 free throws in Duquesne's first 32 games, went 11-of-15 from the line in scoring a career-high 17 points ... Robinson's previous career-best was 10, which he reached twice as a freshman.

Micah Mason added to his school record for 3-pointers in a season by going 4-of-9 from the arc ... he now has 114 "3s" in 32 games.

• Duquesne's largest lead was +19 (53-34) the last of which came with 19:12 left ... Omaha never led.
