PITTSBURGH - Jack Gibbs scored 25 points and Brian Sullivan added 22 to lead Davidson to a 93-82 win over Duquesne at Palumbo Center.
Derrick Colter and Micah Mason had 22 and 21 points respectively for Duquesne, which saw its win streak snapped at three.
The Wildcats (13-8, 5-5) outscored Duquesne 21-10 off turnovers and 21-11 in second chance points in handing the Dukes (15-8, 5-5) just their second home loss this season.
"We got beat on things that we had been beating people on," said Duquesne coach Jim Ferry. "We got beat on 50-50's, we got outrebounded - we gave up 21 offensive rebounds - and gave up 26 foul shots and they made 17. It was a really disappointing effort on our part."
There were three ties and five lead changes before Jordan Watkins hit a 3-pointer to give Davidson a 18-16 lead. Mar'Qywell Jackson, who scored a career-high 13 points, hit one of his three 3-pointers to make it a two-point game, before the Wildcats responded with a 12-4 run - the last four of which came on a Sullivan four-point play - to take a 40-30 lead with just under three minutes left in the half.
Davidson matched it largest lead on Rusty Reigel's 3-pointer that made it 48-35 at intermission.
Gibbs had 18 in the opening 20 minutes.
Duquesne was whistled for 15 fouls in the first half.
"I thought there was no flow to the game," said Ferry.
The Wildcats got 3-pointers from Sullivan and Gibbs in opening the second half with a 10-5 run to take an 18-point lead.
Davidson led 67-50 before the Dukes put together an 11-2 run, including six points from Jackson and a 3-pointer by Mason, to make it 69-61 with 10:02 left.
It was then that Gibbs ignited an 11-3 run with a 12-footer.
Sullivan, who scored 13 in the second half, made it a 16-point game on one of his five 3-pointers with just over six minutes left.
Duquesne closed the game on a 10-2 run for the final margin.
Davidson, led by Peyton Aldridge's 11 boards, outrebounded Duquesne 52-40.
L.G. Gill finished with 16 points - including four 3-pointers - for Duquesne. Mason added a game-high eight assists for DU which assisted on 23 of its 28 field goals.
The Dukes outshot the Wildcats 43.8 percent to 42.1 percent and finished with 13 3-pointers to 12 for Davidson.
Duquesne returns to action Tuesday night at Dayton. The game, set for a 7:00 p.m. tip, will be televised by ASN.
NOTES
Mar'Qywell Jackson came off the bench to post a career-high 13 points in 22 minutes ... Jackson, who tied his career high with three 3-pointers, was coming off a career high-tying 10 point game at Saint Louis last Saturday.
This was the 114th consecutive start for Derrick Colter ... only one player, Damian Saunders (116) has started more games in a Duquesne uniform ... it was the third consecutive game with 20 or more points for Colter ... Colter, who upped his career point total to 1,507, is the first Duke since Ovie Soko (Jan. 25 through Feb. 1) in 2014 to string together three-straight 20-point games.
Micah Mason, who scored his 1,000th career point on Dec. 16 vs. South Carolina State, topped the 1,000-point mark as a Duke with a 3-pointer at the 8:01 mark of the first half... the senior guard, who transferred to Duquesne after scoring 162 points as a freshman at Drake moved his career point total to 1,182 (1,020 at Duquesne) ... he is the 38th 1,000-point scorer in DU history.
This was Duquesne's first loss in 10 games this season when making 10 or more 3-pointers (DU was 13-of-34 from the arc).
