Photo Gallery PITTSBURGH - Six- nine forward T.J. Cline scored 23 points and added seven assists as Richmond (15-13, 7-9) took advantage of 13 Duquesne first-half turnovers to defeat the Dukes, 83-67, at Palumbo Center.
Derrick Colter scored 20 for the Dukes (15-14, 5-11), who dropped their seventh in a row. Eric James and Micah Mason added 16 and 15 respectively for DU.
Richmond forward Terry Allen scored 16 of his game-high 25 in the second half.
"I thought we got beat by just a better team today," said Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry. "They executed significantly better than we did. I thought their frontcourt totally outplayed our frontcourt. And for the first time all year, I felt as a team, we just couldn't guard them."
The Spiders outscored the Dukes 36-18 in the paint.
Richmond tied its largest lead when Marshall Wood scored on a layup that made it 42-32 at the half.
The Dukes were outscored 18-7 off turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
"I thought we attacked it [the Richmond defense] well early, except we had like five turnovers early in the game," said Ferry. "The other five possessions we scored. In the second half, we cut it to five and had that opportunity. We just couldn't guard them defensively."
DU pulled to within five on a Mason 3-pointer just under four minutes into the half, and cut it to 49-45 on a Colter three with 14 minutes left.
Duquesne then missed nine of 10 shots and three of four free throws as Richmond built its lead to 59-46.
Colter briefly cut it to 10 on his fourth and final 3-pointer with 8:28 left, before Allen built the lead back to 15 on a three-point play
DU cut it to 10 again on a Josh Steel 3-pointer at the 5:44 mark and looked to have a stop and rebound when the ball bounced into the hands of Cline, who hit a shot from point blank range, was fouled, and converted the free throw to make it 69-56.
Duquesne would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Richmond, which shot 52.7 percent, finished 21 points off 16 Duquesne turnovers. DU finished at 40 percent.
Duquesne completes the home portion of the regular-season schedule on Wednesday, March 2 vs. Fordham (15-12, 6-10) at 7:00 p.m. (Atlantic 10 Digital Network).
