PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's basketball team fell to #4/3 Maryland 77-57 on Wednesday night at the Palumbo Center.
Amadea Szamosi scored a game-high 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting for the Dukes (6-7).
Brionna Jones scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Maryland (12-0). Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 17 for the Terrapins.
FIRST QUARTER
After falling behind 10-4 early on, the Dukes defense caused Maryland to miss seven straight field goals over the next 4:18. Duquesne went on to score the last four points, trailing by one at 13-12.
SECOND QUARTER
Duquesne struggled in the quarter, making only a pair of field goals. Jones' layup at 3:12 gave the Terrapins their first double-digit lead at 24-14 which was part of a 16-2 run that made the score 29-14. Confroy's 3-pointer with seven seconds left put UMD ahead 32-16 heading into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
Maryland's lead would get as high as 26 points after a pair of Jones free throws at 1:16. The Dukes ended the quarter with five straight free throws to make the score 57-36.
FOURTH QUARTER
Duquesne opened the first 5:28 of the quarter on an 18-6. Julijana Vojinovic's 3-pointer with 4:11 to go cut the deficit to 10 points at 64-54. Vojinovic added another 3-pointer with 3:05 remaining for the Dukes' final basket.
UP NEXT
Duquesne returns home to host Pittsburgh in the annual City Game on Dec. 29th. Tipoff is at 2:00 P.M.
