Nov. 9, 2016 NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Cassidy Powers, DUQUESNE
Jr., Right, 5-5, North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda
Powers helped power Duquesne to a .643 win percentage during its trip to the Virginia Union Invitational. Contributing to the first-year program's 9-5 record at the three-day meet, Powers' consistency yielded a 19.38 overall frame average. The right-hander compiled a 1,183 pinfall over the course of six traditional team matches. Leading the Dukes to a 5-1 record during that portion of the competition, Powers accounted for the third-highest game average (197.17) on the tournament's individual leaderboard. She twice exceeded the 200-pin mark, throwing a 215 game in a win over event host VUU before registering a 210 during a victory over Saint Peter's. For the weekend, the Western New York product filled 83.6 percent of her frames while striking at a 45.8 percent clip. Powers is the second Duquesne bowler to capture the NEC Rookie of the Week award; Kelsey Hackbart secured the honor for the fledgling program on October 19.
