@DuqWBB Defeats Lehigh 63-49

PITTSBURGH - Amadea Szamosi recorded a double-double of 15 points and a career-high 19 rebounds -- 15 offensive - as Duquesne opened its home schedule with a 63-49 victory over Lehigh on Sunday afternoon. Chassidy Omogrosso tied her career-high with 18 points.

Lehigh's Quinci Mann scored a game-high 22 points for the Mountain Hawks (1-1).

As a team, the Dukes pulled down 69 rebounds -- 35 on the offensive side.

1ST QUARTER
The Dukes used an 11-0 run to build a 15-7 lead and take a 30-13 advantage at the end of the quarter. Duquesne held Lehigh to just four field goals and forced five turnovers. Lass scored seven points in the quarter.

2ND QUARTER
By the 4:49 mark, Szamosi had already recorded a double-double, with 10 points and 11 rebounds. After the media timeout, Paige Cannon had a putback off a missed Szamosi foul shot to give the Dukes their first 20-point lead, making the score 39-19. The Dukes would extend their lead to 22 points at the half, leading 44-22.

3rd QUARTER
Lehigh was able to cut the deficit to 12 points at 49-37 with 2:03 remaining. However, the Dukes would score the final seven points of the quarter, to make the score 56-37.

4TH QUARTER
Although Duquesne did not get a field goal until the 5:38 mark, they were able to maintain the 19 point lead. The Mountain Hawks scored the final seven points of the game, the last being a pair of foul shots with 10 seconds remaining.

NOTES

  • Szamosi's 19 rebounds was the most by a Duquesne player since Beth Friday's 20 boards on 02/14/02
  • Her previous career-high was 15 rebounds against Saint Joseph's last season
  • This was Szamosi's 12th career double-double
  • Omogrosso also had 18 points against Howard and at Pitt last season
  • She pulled down a career-high six rebounds
  • Nina Aho finished the game a +27 with only a pair of turnovers in 27 minutes
  • The Dukes outrebounded the Mountain Hawks 35-10 on the offensive end

UP NEXT: Duquesne hits New York City on Thursday to face St. John's (1-0) followed by a trip to New Rochelle, N.Y. when they visit Iona (1-0) on Saturday.
