RICHMOND - Doug Brooks and Mo Alie-Cox led five players in double figures with 16 points each as VCU extended its win streak to nine with a 93-71 win over Duquesne at Siegel Center.
The win left the Rams atop the Atlantic 10 with a 6-0 record (14-5 overall).
L.G. Gill, Derrick Colter and Micah Mason led Duquesne with 18, 17 and 15 points respectively.
Eric James added 13 points and 9 rebounds for the Dukes who dropped to 12-7 overall and 2-4 in the A-10.
"You can't turn the ball over 18 times - I know that's easier said than done against these guys - and you can't put them at the foul line 21 times," said Ferry of the Rams who finished 19-21 from the stripe. "I thought they were the most physical team we've played. I thought we should have gotten to the foul line little bit more. It was a competitive game for a while and then we kept fouling them and its really hard to overcome against a really good team."
Gill scored eight-straight points for the Dukes, the last of which made it 21-20 with 9:30 left in the first half. The bucket was DU's last for nearly five minutes, as VCU put together an 11-0 run fueled by six points from the foul line.
DU turned it over nine times in the final nine minutes of the half that ended with VCU up 44-31.
VCU scored 13 of its first half points from the foul line, as Duquesne centers Darius Lewis, TySean Powell and Jordan Robinson were whistled for three fouls each.
Duquesne got a 3-pointer from Mason and a bucket from Eric James, who scored all of his points in the second half, to cut the lead to eight just over a minute into the half, before the Rams responded with a 10-0 run - which included a pair of 3-pointers by Brooks - to make it 57-39 with 15:36 left.
VCU, which hit eight of its first 11 3-point attempts, finished 10-of-17 from the arc. The Rams, shot .525 overall.
"When they shoot the ball like that, they're going to be a hard out," said Ferry. "They are going to be a hard team to beat in this place, that's for sure."
Duquesne went 6-of-20 from 3-point in finishing at .439 from the field.
Duquesne will stay on the road to face George Mason on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4:00 p.m. (Atlantic 10 Digital Network).

• With his 17 points, Derrick Colter passed Mike James (1,411) to move into the No. 15 spot in DU's all-time leading scorers' list ... Colter has 1,416 points in 110 career games.
